Single Tooth Whitening

What is Single Tooth Whitening?

What is single tooth (internal) whitening? It is a whitening method that we apply to teeth to eliminate the color change that occurs over time in teeth that have undergone root canal treatment. The filling on the tooth is removed, the filling on the canal is tightly closed and whitening gel is applied to the opened space.

How is Single Tooth Whitening Done?

Laser teeth whitening has been a method preferred by patients with individual discoloration in their teeth in recent years. However, contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as whitening teeth with a laser light source alone. It is possible to achieve whiteness thanks to the laser that activates teeth whitening chemicals. It is activated with the wavelength of the light in the ultraviolet (UV) light source, the wavelength of a light source from an LED, and the appropriate wavelength light from the laser light source. The effect of laser teeth whitening is more permanent.

When laser teeth whitening is performed, the old fillings of the discolored root canal treated tooth or teeth are first opened and whitening material is placed inside the teeth and covered with a temporary filling. After the application, the patient is given an appointment again 3-5 days later and the whitening status of the teeth is observed. If the whitening of the tooth is not sufficient after the first application, the whitening substance inside the tooth is removed and a new one is applied and these procedures are repeated until sufficient whiteness is achieved. Single tooth whitening application is generally completed in the first session.

Advantageous Applications in Single Tooth Whitening!

Coffee, tea, tobacco, red wine and long-term use of mouthwashes, root canal treatment or trauma may cause discoloration in the teeth due to the death of the living tissue inside the tooth. This situation can sometimes occur in all teeth, but sometimes in a single tooth. Single tooth whitening has also emerged for this purpose and is applied to patients with individual discoloration in their teeth.

Single tooth whitening is generally applied to teeth that have become discolored during root canal treatment. In the single tooth whitening process, which is performed by applying whitening gel to the gap opened after the fillings in the teeth are removed, laser teeth whitening sessions are repeated until the desired color is reached in the teeth that are tightly closed with a temporary filling.

Is the Effect of Teeth Whitening Permanent?

The most frequently asked question by patients when performing a single tooth whitening treatment is whether the application will be permanent. The whiteness obtained after laser teeth whitening may disappear over time. This situation changes depending on whether the patient consumes colored liquids such as tea, coffee and wine, and smoking. If supported by 1 or 2 sessions every 4-6 months, teeth whitening is made permanent. Laser teeth whitening treatment is quite satisfactory.
