What is Frenectomy?
The soft tissue that connects the lip, tongue and cheek tissues is called frenulum. It is located under the tongue between the upper and lower central incisors in the mouth, between the cheek and the back teeth. While frenulum may vary from person to person, it can be found in more than one way in the mouth. It is not only found under the tongue, but it can be located in more than one place in the upper teeth, lips and back of the cheek. Tongue tie can often cause restriction of tongue movement in children. If not prevented, tongue tie can lead to speech disorders, gum and orthodontic problems in the future. In babies, lip tie can cause the upper teeth to be positioned and cause a gap between them while the teeth are forming. Thicker or longer tissues than they should be should be intervened in order to prevent bigger problems in the future. Frenectomy is the name given to the frenulum tissue removal process. Frenectomy is easy and short-term thanks to the latest technological devices. Local anesthesia is applied to the area, and the person does not feel any pain.
