What is fissure sealant?
It is the material that covers the recesses and holes on the tooth surface, namely the fissures. The application of this process is called fissure sealant. Fissure can be defined as a kind of dental vaccine. It is a very easy and painless procedure in terms of preventing the formation of cavities. This application is the most ideal treatment method for children who are afraid of the dentist or who are going to the dentist for the first time.
At what age should fissure be applied?
This application is generally applied to the first molars, which are called 6-year-old teeth, or permanent teeth. However, this is not a mandatory situation and can also be applied to milk teeth and premolars, which we call premolars. Another application is that there may be developmental grooves and cleft-shaped formations on the front or back teeth. These areas are ideal places for food accumulation and decay can easily occur if good oral hygiene is not provided.
