Aesthetic Fillings

What is aesthetic filling?

Aesthetic fillings, which are preferred by individuals who want to have a perfect smile, are now used on the back teeth as well as the front teeth. In the past, dark-colored and aesthetically unpleasant amalgam fillings were used in the treatment of tooth decay. Today, composite fillings that are the same color as the teeth are preferred instead.

Although composite fillings were previously preferred only on the front teeth, with advancing technology, extremely strong composite fillings that are resistant to chewing have begun to be obtained and are now suitable for use on all teeth. Composite resin, which is used as an aesthetic filling material, is a plastic mixture containing silicon dioxide.

Composite filling, commonly known as white filling, is filled into the teeth while it is in dough consistency and hardened by irradiating with halogen or LED light. Since it chemically bonds to the tooth tissue, it is extremely resistant to pressure and abrasion. Composite fillings are used not only for filling purposes but also to correct aesthetic defects in the teeth.

How is Aesthetic Filling Done?

A very simple procedure, aesthetic filling application can be performed in just one session. Before starting the procedure, the area is numbed with local anesthesia. The decayed tooth or teeth are cleaned. Then, the cavity filling material is shaped to ensure better adhesion to the tooth. A beveling application is performed to ensure better adhesion of the filling material to the tooth. In this way, the material bonds much better to the tooth tissue.

After the surface of the tooth enamel is smoothed, a bonding application is performed to bond the filling material to the tooth surface. The filling material is prepared in the appropriate color and consistency and placed in the opened tooth cavity.

The filling must be irradiated each time to reach ideal hardness. If there is excessive height or protrusion in the filling, it is corrected. Then, it is ensured to be smooth. The procedure is completed by polishing the teeth. We can state that this whole process is not challenging for the patient and that the aesthetic filling process is completed with a very comfortable session.

Why Are Aesthetic Dental Fillings Necessary?

Patients can benefit from aesthetic filling procedures when they want to have an aesthetically beautiful smile. Tooth decay must be treated so that it does not cause more serious problems and discomfort. Within the scope of this treatment, the remaining space after the decay is cleaned must be filled with filling material. There are many different filling materials on the market.

One of the most preferred among these materials recently is composite filling. We can say that this filling procedure is frequently preferred because it has a more natural appearance. The fact that the filling is not noticeable when viewed from the outside is also among the reasons why this filling method is preferred.

How Long Do Aesthetic Fillings Last?

Every patient wonders about the lifespan of these fillings before having them done. The fact that the material used in aesthetic fillings is extremely durable also means that they offer a long lifespan.

If the patient pays attention to oral and dental hygiene and care after the filling process, it is not possible for the fillings to deform. If oral and dental hygiene and care are meticulously performed, problems such as gaps or leaks in the fillings will never occur. However, you should not forget that you should be examined by your dentist every 6 months.

These routine examinations are extremely important. Because the condition of the fillings can be reviewed, and if necessary, the fillings can be polished. In this way, it will be possible for them to offer a much longer and trouble-free lifespan. In a sense, we can say that the lifespan of aesthetic dental fillings is also related to the person himself. If the recommendations and warnings are followed and the controls are not neglected, the fillings can be used for many years. Let us also state that it is possible to renew the filling in case of any problems.
